Friends of Cherry Creek

Our Cause

Friends of Cherry Creek are working together with homeowners, city officials, biologists and conservation groups to protect this small section of natural waterway in Oakland Park.

The native estuary habitats of Broward County have been almost completely destroyed by urbanization. We are working diligently to spare our creek from that fate.

We believe working together with the Oakland Park City officials to seek an alternative to the proposed dredging of Cherry Creek is beneficial far beyond our own city limits. The juvenile fish and birds in this mangrove habitat will help seed the next generations.

Friends of Cherry Creek also agree that this area would best be served if it was permanently set aside as a sanctuary, protected from future threats by legislation.
